The Wat Athva temple is situated around 8 kilometers from Siem Reap Provincial Town in Wat Athva Village, Siem Reap commune, and Siem Reap district. Wat Atva was constructed for Buddhist purposes in the middle of the 12th century, during the reign of King Suryavarman II (1113-1150). Similar to Angkor Wat, the sandstone Wat Athva temple is oriented westward. This temple has four entrances—one each in the east, south, and north—and is square from an architectural perspective. The front of the building has an additional protruding roof. There were three entrances on each front porch, one on each axis and two on either side of the axis. The primary entrance to the central tower is a long, oblong building that is connected to the front deck on the west side.
