Overview

We are going to visit the Beng Mealea temple built as a Hindu temple, but there are some carvings depicting Buddhist motifs. Its primary material is sandstone and it is largely unrestored, with trees and thick brush thriving amidst its towers and courtyards and many of its stones lying in great heaps. For years it was difficult to reach, but a road recently built to the temple complex of Koh Ker passes Beng Mealea and more visitors are coming to the site, as it is 77 km from Siem Reap by road. It was built by King Suryavarman II who built the Angkor Wat temple. He built this temple for his ancestors. However, this temple is covered by the jungle. Next, we visit Kompong Khleang village, one of the floating communities at the edge of Tonle Sap Lake, renowned for its amazing clusters of high-stilt houses and ideally admired by floating villages. On the boat tour, you will visit both interesting stilt houses and floating homes along with daily fishing or trading activities on rowing boats learning about the ecosystem, and lifestyle of aquatic resources, and observing how people make the lake as home. It takes time from Siem Reap City to about 1 hour (50km) drive to Kompong Khleang village of Tonle Sap Lake. The journey passes an interesting city highlight, a countryside dotted with palm trees, and an en route to observe how famous bamboo sticky rice is produced, and you have chances to taste some bites of those delicious snacks. Once we arrive at Kompong Khleang boat pier, embark a sheltered boat that slowly cruises along the canal and around the region that is admired by amazing houses atop high poles, come across the highlight of fishing activities as well as see people selling fruits, and vegetable, meats on their boats, you sometimes see kids in student uniforms coming back from their classes. Continue the boat excursion to visit Kompong Khleang floating community, witness how life works on the water and how people make the lake as home, and see the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia "Tonle Sap", learn from your tour guide about the ecosystem and its rich biosphere reserve. Finally, we return back to your hotel.
